- The SHS, RHS and CHS profiles will all hold a screw quite well although thicker wall is obviously stronger. Screws with coarse pitch tend to be best eg 14G galv or SS wood screws – countersunk batten type or hex head type
- Drilling a pilot hole is usually best although some screws with sharp tip and groove can pierce the material.
- Self-drilling screws can be used where the two parts are securely clamped together, and where the extension of the screw drill tip is equal or greater than the thickness of material. Otherwise a pilot hole is needed.
